Attendance Reporting in the Faculty Portal

Federal requirements regarding the disbursement of federal financial aid require all faculty to record attendance in the faculty portal through the drop/add period. This is the means by which the financial aid office determines that students are actually attending their courses (or, for online courses, active in their courses).

Using the Roll Call Attendance Tool to Track Attendance

Roll Call is a tool that can be used to take and track attendance throughout the term. As you take attendance, Roll Call will automatically create an assignment, and the students' attendance will show as a percentage grade in the gradebook. This allows you and your students to efficiently track attendance. This data also feeds into our student analytics tool, Dropout Detective, which will alert our retention team, advisors, and coaches when students have excessive absences.

Change the point value for the Roll Call assignment - or - track attendance without affecting student grades (DON'T DELETE the Roll Call Attendance assignment!!)

Tip: You can have the Attendance tool open as you begin class and record attendance as students come in. This is an efficient way to record attendance, and it just may help you get to know the names of your students!

Note

Using this tool does not submit your attendance on CAMs for you. You will need to go to CAMs directly to submit attendance. Check out this guide.
